Q?What happens during the in-home assessment?

The in-home consultation is recommended for first-time clients and includes a needs assessment, budget, guidelines, action plan, and list of resources that will help you. It is especially useful if you aren’t sure how many organizing sessions will be needed to complete the project.

It allows me to understand what you want to accomplish, what has worked for you in the past, what you like and dislike, and any other criteria or concerns that you may have before we get started. For example, this couple wanted to replace most of their furniture and start all over, whereas this client wanted to make use of the furniture they already had. Some clients have a specific problem area and want to know their options based on a fixed budget. Other clients have multiple areas that they wish to address and want a clear idea of what it will take to get completely organized for the long haul.

Q?How many organizing sessions will I need?

The answers depend on your specific situation, requirements, and budget.

For example, two sessions were needed for the Zola home office. In the first session, we removed everything off the desk and shelves, decluttered, and rearranged all the furniture. In the second session, we plowed through piles of paperwork on the floor, in plastic bins, boxes, and folders – purging, sorting, re-organizing, and putting things where they belonged in the newly-arranged layout.

Another client had a 5,000 sq. ft. home and needed help with multiple storage areas, the garage, laundry room, art room, and more. In one session, we organized a large storage closet. In another session, we created a pantry area adjacent to the kitchen. Other sessions involved decluttering, purging, re-arranging room layouts, and so on. Ten sessions were required.

For many people, one organizing session is all that is needed, as was the case with the Lam Residence. It just depends.
